Food Insecurity Survey

Winter 2022

This project sought to gauge the prevalence and effects of food insecurity. It specifically explored various barriers to the ASUCD Pantry for improving campus food resources.

The survey was administered from January 2022 to February 2022, receiving over 600 responses from UC Davis students in that time. The data showed that about a quarter of respondents reported experiencing food insecurity in the last 12 months. Respondents were also asked to select barriers they experienced in accessing the ASUCD Pantry. The most common option chosen was being unsure of eligibility (selected by ~52% of question respondents) followed by not knowing the time for food distribution (selected by ~36% of question respondents).

Thus, the committee recommended in their report that the ASUCD Pantry work to communicate to students that any UC Davis student is able to receive food explicitly as well as marketing times and locations for food distribution through social media and in-person interactions with students.

The committee also created a dashboard summarizing the survey data here.
